RESULTS Staff to bring TB message to European Development Days

This coming week RESULTS staff and our partners from Global Health Advocates will be representing the TB Europe Coalition at the 5th European Development Days (EDD) hosted in Brussels, Belgium, on 6-7 December 2010. The EDD are organised by the European Commission and the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The event will showcase the EU’s continuing commitment to development and will provide RESULTS with the opportunity to meet with Members of European Parliament and to educate policymakers on TB, its linkages to poverty and what more the EU can be doing to fight this disease.

Participants, hosts, moderators and exhibitors will be from both the North and South. They will be able to strengthen public awareness about development issues and share knowledge with parliamentarians in key areas such as global health, good governance, the economic crisis, international finance and food security to name a few.

The TB Europe Coalition will be working to call for urgent attention from Members of European Parliament and European Union Member States to engage in the fight against TB in Europe and globally. Many people think of TB as a disease of the past, but in reality over 2 billion people are infected with the bacteria that cause TB. In 2009 alone TB killed 1.7 million people. TB is a global problem that must be addressed by policy makers around the world.
