May action materials now available

The May action pack is now available on the RESULTS UK website.

When we join together for this month’s conference call next Tuesday it will be just two days before the UK general election. Theelection is widely expected to lead to the highest number of new MPs in a generation entering Parliament, and we therefore have a big job to do to educate and inform them about why development is important and what the UK can do to support it.

We are therefore asking our activists to visit your new (or re-elected) MP at their first constituency surgery. To help them toMDG 5 symbolunderstand how they can contribute to development, we will be looking in detail at the upcoming G8 summit to be held in Canada in June. At this summit there are plans to announce a major initiative designed to tackle the millions of mothers and children dying from preventable causes every year.

It is crucial that this initiative is strongly supported by the UK, including financially. We will ask our MPs to call on the new Prime Minister to support UK financial support for a package of proven interventions in health and sanitation, along with further UK financial support for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria which is facing a major funding shortfall.

Our guest speaker on the call will be Chris Dendys, Director of RESULTS Canada. Chris has been working closely with the Canadian authorities to develop the G8 initiative, and is also a real expert on the Global Fund. The call will be a great opportunity to find out more about what is happening in June and how we in the UK can help.
