Debbie Laycock has sadly left RESULTS UK as the Coordinator of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Global TB. After nearly 2 years running the Group, Debbie is heading off to north eastern India to work on VSO. While Debbie will be sorely missed, we are happy to announce that Mike Smith took over earlier this week as the new Coordinator for the Group.
Mike has several years experience working in and around Parliament, including previously coordinating the Associate Parliamentary Group on Women, Peace and Security. Most recently he worked as Communications Officer for the Commonwealth Policy Studies Unit at the University of London. Mike grew up in New Zealand, South Africa, the United States and the UK and is committed to tackling poverty, inequality and disease globally and at home.
The All Party Parliamentary Group has a packed year ahead with numerous meetings, events and publications planned to highlight the impact of TB in both the UK and internationally. In the UK, the Group will continue to focus on stemming the rising number of TB cases, with a particular focus on TB in vulnerable groups, TB in London, and improving national TB policy. At the global level, the APPG plans to focus on strengthening its international parliamentary network, HIV-TB co-infection, and keeping TB as a priority for the British government.
With so much going on and a general election in the next few months, there’s plenty of work to keep Mike busy! To find out more about the APPG and our work please visit our website at www.appg-tb.org.uk or contact Mike directly at email@example.com.
