RESULTS is pleased to have been invited to speak at the annual UNIFEM fundraiser tonight (Thursday the 15th) at Linklaters in London. The event is held annually to raise awareness and funds for UNIFEM, the Women’s Fund at the United Nations. UNIFEM works to empower women in the developing world so there are many parallels with RESULTS work.
The theme of the night is “Women, Poverty, and Microfinance”. It has proven very popular, and is looking to be a total sell out. Sharing the stage with Aaron Oxley of RESULTS will be Marianna Mwaniki, Senior Sustainability Manager at Standard Chartered Bank; and Faisel Rahman, who runs Fair Finance in East London and is the recipient of a World Economic Forum’s Young Global Leader award in 2009.
Aaron said, “It is a privilege to have the opportunity to speak out on behalf of those who otherwise don’t have a voice. Now, more than ever, we must empower women and give them every opportunity to be agents of social change in the communities in which they live. Good microfinance is one of the tools that helps us do that.”
Proceeds from the night will go to the UNIFEM Trust to End Violence Against Women.
