The Department for International Development is currently developing a new Education Strategy, which will set out the guidelines for how DFID will work on education over the next few years. Recently DFID published a consultation document on this strategy, which outlines their initial thinking on the strategy.
RESULTS believes that there are some gaps in the consultation document, for example there is almost no mention of disability despite the fact that disabled children make up one third of those who are out of school, and very little discussion of the reform of financing mechanisms such as the Fast Track Initiative.
Staff from the RESULTS office will be making a written submission to the consultation and are encouraging members of our grassroots network to also have their say. You can contribute to the strategy through the open consultation either online here, by email (Education2010@dfid.gov.uk) or by post. The deadline is Friday 30th October. If you would like any assistance with what to write or how to send in your comments we would be delighted to help – please get in touch with Julia at the office.
